The 1.750.000 Euro, EU-funded project on Maritime Training in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan, ongoing to October 2007, is contributing to shipping safety, prevention of marine pollution and to capacity building of maritime institutions in the ‘TRACECA’ regions. Hypodomi is a partner of an international consortium led by the Hamburg Port Training Institute GmbH (HPTI) in Germany. Within this EU project an assessment of the Regional Training Centres of the beneficiary countries is being carried out in order to identify strengths and weaknesses of the individual centres and to discuss the possibility of establishing training programmes tailored to the needs of the maritime industry in each of them.

The Training needs of partners in the maritime sector like maritime administrations, ports, shipping lines etc. are also being assessed based on the conventions, resolutions and recommendations of the International Maritime Organisation and EU standards, and recently a Study Tour to Greece has taken place with officials from Azerbaijan Georgia, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine. The 5-day Study Tour included sessions of Institutional Maritime training in Greece, Quality Management Systems, Risk Assessment and Management, Train-the-Trainer Principles as well as Leadership, management,  communication skills and assessment techniques workshops, table top exercises and visits to responsible ministries and academies.
