    Greece gains on World Competitiveness Scoreboard

    In its annual report on the competitiveness of 61 countries, the Institute for Management Development (IMD) based in Lausanne has upgraded Greece’s standing in 2006 by a full eight spots, to 42 from 50 in 2005. Greece has the third best improvement over the previous year, following only China and India, which moved up by 12 and 10 spots respectively.

    IMD highlighted tourism, services (especially shipping) and foreign investment in securities as the strongest sectors related to economic performance.

    Rapid growth of exports of goods and services by 8% in the first quarter of 2006, with Greek exports reaching 13.964 billion euro in 2005, the highest level in 60 years now.
