DARWIND: Developing a production site for high power offshore wind turbines

Darwind operates on the offshore wind energy market, one that is key in future large scale, sustainable energy systems. Darwind is a developer and provider of high-power offshore wind turbines. The turbines combine the use of high-tech materials, light weight, high operational availability and a minimum of maintenance. E-I Consulting Group member Berenschot was involved heavily in the preparations and design of the assembly site. At first, a location study was done. Given the huge dimensions of the turbines a location facilitating transport by water had to be chosen. The design of the assembly site, assembly methodologies and supply chain was developed. Since the growth rates were difficult to forecast, flexibility in scaling up and down quickly was important. Also the organization was designed, including the staff en competency build up which was necessary during the start up

AMVEST ENERGY: delivering residential heating and cooling

Amvest took the initiative of establishing an operating company especially dedicated to investing in geothermal heat pumps. The aim was to be able to deliver heating as well as cooling during summer to the residential tenants of the houses owned by its parent company, a large real estate developer. E-I Consulting Group member Berenschot drafted action plans for the implementation, prepared detailed long term investment analyses and scenario analyses. Following a positive decision by the board of management, support was given to design the organization and draft a marketing strategy, and to focus their brand on sustainability values. Finally the role of interim director was fulfilled for the actual realization of the operating company, from setting up the legal entity to staffing the organization and acquiring the first investment projects.
